Sweet Shoppe Designs Website Redesign
Sweet Shoppe Designs is a well-established digital scrapbooking community, and I was honored when they came to me for their most recent redesign. Owner Robin Carlton had a strong idea of what she wanted for the new site, both design-wise and functionality-wise. I helped put all her design ideas together, and was able to come up with solutions for all the functionality she wanted to add to the site.
The design is clean and open, and colorful without being distracting—a must for a site that features vibrant, colorful projects and gallery images. The previous home page of the site was static, and difficult to update. I pulled the new home page into WordPress making it easy for Robin and her staff to update themselves, and added several interactive features, including a large product image slider, and a slide show that features recent images from the community’s gallery. I also added a second WordPress installation with a custom image grid layout for their new tutorial section. I customized their X-Cart shoppe to allow extra large product images on the home page, and social sharing buttons for Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest that match the ones in the blog and tutorial section of the site, making it easier for people to find and share the Sweet Shoppe’s content. Lastly, I came up with a custom layout for their staff page that is easy to add/edit via the WordPress dashboard, allowing Robin to easily keep her staff contact info up to date.
